Membership

Registration

1. Local residents
2. People who study or work in Higashikurume city
3. Residents in Kodaira, Higashimurayama, Kiyose, Nishi-Tokyo or Niiza

The library card is valid for 3 years

Books must be returned or renewed by their due date.
You won’t be able to borrow/reserve any more items if more than 2 weeks have passed from due dates.

Borrowing

Use the self-service borrowing machine.

You can renew your borrowed books, magazines & kamishibais once only if they are before/on the due date and no-one has reserved the item.

Returning

Library items can be returned to any Higashikurume library branches. (The library card is not required when returning.)

After library hours or during holidays,please deposit books, magazines & kamishibais only in the book return boxes,located outside of librariesand either side of Higashikurume station.

Reservations & requests

You can make reservations/requests when the material you want is on loan,or you can’t find what you seek in the library collection.

・Reservations
Reserving for items in the Higashikurume library collection.
You can specify receiving order, eg borrowing volume 1 first and volume 2 later.

・Requests
If we do not have the book/periodical you are interested in, we can apply to other libraries to borrow their copy on your behalf through the Inter-Library Loan system.(This service is provided only for local residents & people who study or work in Higashikurume city.)

Library services

Reference Service

The library can help you to find the answer to your question and do research for work, study and leisure.
The Main Library has a Reference Book Room with dictionaries, yearbooks, white papers & local collections.

 

Photocopying

Black & white self-service photocopying facilities are available.
Fill in a form before using it.

1）Copied material must conform with Japan’s copyright laws and other restrictions.
2）Available for library items only.
3）We provide this service on the 2nd floor ofthe Main Library.

 

Service for children

Weekly storytime is held in libraries. Also check the fun events :activities with books on science, picture book exhibition and puppet shows!

 

Service for disabled people (“Handicap Service”)

The library service is provided to all customers who are unable by reason of age, disability or infirmity, to get to a library building.
The basis of the service offered will be the loan of talking books, the delivery of library materials, and personal reading.
Registration is required. Contactthe Main Library in for more detail.

Service for groups

We lend books to schools, kindergartens, nursery schools and other social educational activity groups in Higashikurume city.

Guide for the library facilities

Self-service borrowing machine

Use the self-service borrowing machine for borrowing items.
Put the items on the glass table of the machine and insert the library card. (You need to bring your Higashikurume library card.)

 

Holds Pick-up Room　(Main Library only)

Reserved books & magazines are available in the Holds Pick-up Room. Check the status with the machine at the entrance of the room, pick up the items from the shelf and use the self-service borrowing machine. However, reserved audio-visuals and Inter-Library Loan items are available at the staff desk. Please pick up reserved items within a week.

 

Online database (fee payable)　(Main Library only)

We provide a computer for online database in the Reference Book Room. Printing is available, conforming with the library restrictions. Ask the staff in detail.

 

Study Room　(Main Library only)

We offer a meeting room(the larger one) on the 2nd floor as a study room. Ask the staff in detail.
